Amsterdam is Public
de Appel, Prins Hendrikkade 142, Amsterdam
We Are Public has been around for one year to date on 28 May 2015. To celebrate everything We Are Public already accomplished, We Are Public is organising a day full of enterprising programmes under the header “Amsterdam is Public” on 28 May.
At 15:00 Lian Ladia and Chiara Laneselli both participants of the de Appel arts centre will give a guided tour of the exhibition. Make a reservation via reservation [at] deappel.nl.
Each year since 1994, de Appel arts centre has been hosting a ten month Curatorial Programme, inviting six young curators from all over the world to participate. They are given the opportunity to improve their professional skills in an intensive array of workshops, excursions, practice-related assignments and encounters with artists and art professionals. Each ten-month programme culminates in a final project curated by the participants, taking the form of an exhibition, festival or intervention.
A crossroads was encountered along this last ten-month stretch, meaning that two autonomous presentations will be exhibited at once. To round off the Curatorial Programme 2014-2015, De Appel arts centre presents: Your Time Is Not My Time and Spell to Spelling ** Spelling to Spell opening on 22 May. The first presentation focusses on our lives amidst the hyper-circulation of images and how that affects our daily lives. The exhibition also questions the blurred boundaries between viewer, author and user as well as the changing realms of image and copyright. The second exhibition investigates how stories can affect the experience of artworks, delving into the impact of fictional narratives, audio tours and the (artistic) experience of the visitor.
