OA/AO (onder andere/among others) is an ongoing series of screenings, presentations, and conversations that focus around a single work or object. These intimate gatherings feature a range of special guests who are invited to talk about a recent project, idea, or thing, followed by a conversation in which we encourage audience participation. Through these short presentations, De Appel assembles an ongoing collage of the current critical and creative world, asking invited guests to think through and articulate a position towards the material they present, among others.
Under the title 3 MOVEMENTS, De Appel’s autumn 2018 season focuses on music as discipline and considers the element of sound across a range of artistic practices. This second OA/AO event of the season features a performance by Ben Russell, whose solo exhibition IT IS HERE/THIS WILL LAST FOREVER is on view at De Appel from October 4th - December 1st, 2018. The piece expands on Russell’s investigation into the live sensory audiovisual encounter, additionally postulating mystical, metaphysical possibilities inherent within the media experience. The performance will be followed by an intimate discussion with the artist.
Doors open at 18.30, programme starts at 19.00.
CONJURING
25 min, performance, modular / video synthesis, 2018
In this live performance, analogue synthesis becomes a spell for conjuring. A mountain emerges, an invisible summit appears. We are earth and the mountain is earth and we climb forever upwards along a chaos of slopes where synaesthesia is feeling, mapping is modeling, volume (sound) is volume (space), and waveform is mountain song.
Event is fully booked now! Hopefully you can join us for the next OA/AO (details will be coming soon!).
