OA/AO (onder andere/among others) is a monthly series of screenings, presentations, and conversations that focuses around a single work or object. These intimate gatherings feature a range of special guests who are invited to talk about a recent project, idea, or thing, followed by a conversation in which we encourage audience participation. Through these short presentations, De Appel assembles an ongoing collage of the current critical and creative world, asking invited guests to think through and articulate a position towards the material they present, among others.

Tuesday, April 24, 19:00 Entrance 5 euro (including a drink + free entrance to the exhibition Brace for Impact between 18:00 and 19:00) Screening and discussion with Shuddhabrata Sengupta / Raqs Media Collective

The Blood of Stars Video by Raqs Media Collective (2017, 13 mins)

Voices, of a woman and a child, converse, detailing the presence of iron in the blood, the rusting of life and metals, and the sharp edge of a question. A cave, an abandoned military installation in the far north of Sweden, folds in on itself in the footage, airplanes fallen from the sky rust, reindeer run and a snowman waits for aliens. A poet states facts, in Hindi, 'All the iron theirs to mine, only the razor's edge is mine.'

The screening will be followed by a conversation moderated by De Appel's Rachael Rakes on environmental extraction, war, the future, and Raqs Media Collective's work in context. If you would like to attend, please send an rsvp to reservations [at] deappel.nl

About Raqs Media Collective: Based in New Delhi, where it was founded in 1992, Raqs Media Collective (Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula and Shuddhabrata Sengupta) play a plurality of roles, often appearing as artists, occasionally as curators, and sometimes as philosophical agent provocateurs. They create art and films, curate exhibitions, edit books, stage events, collaborate with architects, computer programmers, writers and theatre directors and discover processes that have made deep impacts on contemporary culture in India and beyond. Raqs have exhibited their works in Documenta 11 in 2002 and the Biennales of Venice, Istanbul, Taipei, Liverpool, Sydney and Sao Paulo, amongst many others. In December 2015, the Collective opened Untimely Calendar (Asamayavali), the largest and most wide ranging exhibition of its work to date, spread over 3,200 square meters of Jaipur House at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi. In 2013, they initiated "Sarai Reader 09: The Exhibition," as a curatorial process of exhibiting making and unmaking. Raqs Media Collective was appointed chief curator of the 11th edition of the Shanghai Biennale opening in November 2016, under the title Why Not Ask Again? Manoeuvres, Disputations and Stories.
