OA/AO (onder andere/among others) is a monthly series of screenings, presentations, and conversations that focuses around a single work or object. These intimate gatherings feature a range of special guests who are invited to talk about a recent project, idea, or thing, followed by a conversation in which we encourage audience participation. Through these short presentations, De Appel assembles an ongoing collage of the current critical and creative world, asking invited guests to think through and articulate a position towards the material they present, among others.
The Blood of Stars Video by Raqs Media Collective (2017, 13 mins)
Voices, of a woman and a child, converse, detailing the presence of iron in the blood, the rusting of life and metals, and the sharp edge of a question. A cave, an abandoned military installation in the far north of Sweden, folds in on itself in the footage, airplanes fallen from the sky rust, reindeer run and a snowman waits for aliens. A poet states facts, in Hindi, 'All the iron theirs to mine, only the razor's edge is mine.'The screening will be followed by a conversation moderated by De Appel's Rachael Rakes on environmental extraction, war, the future, and Raqs Media Collective's work in context.
