Charlotte Van Buylaere

In the context of Amsterdam Art Weekend, de Appel presents a two-day symposium of lectures, presentations, performances, papers and readings. The event marks the conclusion of a three-year research project into the inner dynamics of de Appel’s Curatorial Programme with the aim to investigate its position in the expanded field of curatorial education and optimise its sensibility to the latest developments in exhibition making. During the symposium, CP alumni, current participants and invited speakers will look back at the research and its conclusions, and present new pathways for the future of curating.

“You’re such a curator!” welcomes not only academic papers and presentations, but also incorporates performance, workshop and fictional writing into the programme. The symposium revolves around ‘modes of de-universalisation’, which can be understood as an attempt to formulate an answer and response to the increasing standardization of curatorial practices, where uniform exhibition models are translated into geo-specific contexts and artistic work.

With contributions by Mira Asriningtyas, Lucrezia Calabro Visconti, Renata Cervetto, Mateo Chacon-Pino, Galerie (Adriano Wilfert Jensen and Simon Asencio), Natasha Hoare, Kati Ilves, Prem Krishnamurthy, Inga Lace, Latitudes (Max Andrews and Mariana Cánepa Luna), Shona Mei Findlay, Fadwa Naamna, Kim Nguyen, Emma Ines Panza, Aneta Rostkowska and Kuba Woynarowski, Chris Sharp, Niels Van Tomme, Huib Haye van der Werf, and others.
