Note: The workshops will be held in Dutch.

de Appel invites interested participants from the Amsterdam Zuid district to join the Complaints Choir workshop series. The Complaints Choir is a DIY, communal art project where singers and non-singers from the neighbourhood sing together about their complaints. Under the guidance of musician Azubike Onwuka, the choir will explore different perspectives and problems from the neighbourhood, by complaining together, coming up with solutions, composing and singing.

Musical rehearsals will take place in the fall of 2024 and work towards two public presentations: in late September and early November during Museumnacht Amsterdam.

This project is based on the original Complaints Choir, founded by artists Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen. The first edition of the Complaints Choir was organized in Birmingham in 2005. afterwards numerous local Complaints Choirs have been established around the world.

Would you or a friend like to know more about the project, and are you interested in joining? You are warmly invited to the second information meeting on the evening of Tuesday 27 August, between 8 and 9.30pm. The meeting takes place at Community Center Plan C (Smaragdplein 24). If you have any questions, please contact Ka-Tjun Hau (katjun [at] deappel.nl). The workshops will be held in Dutch.
