In her lecture, Seijdel explains her vision of “The value of the amateur” in modern society on the basis of the eponymous essay which she wrote about this subject. She will explore various manifestations of the “public amateur” and amateurism in relation to TV culture, digital culture and the visual arts. Why does the amateur currently attract so much attention? Is he a threat to the professional? In what way does a modern amateur differ from the traditional autodidact or dilettante? What does the amateur mean for the concept of art? Language: Dutch.
