'Two young homosexual men are living in a country where they feel repressed. Therefore they decide to seek the desired freedom in another country. They set off; during the journey they are faced with a multitude of temptations. When they reach their destination they enthousiastically shout for joy: "Somos libres! Somos libres!" Soon however, comes the rude awakening. Even here, the long sought freedom turns out to be a myth.' Somos Libres!? was recorded and edited at the Audio-visual Center of the Erasmus University, Rotterdam, commissioned by the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen on the occasion of Michel Cardena's exhibition from May 2 through 31 1981. The 'video parable for television' was produced by Foundation De Appel, as the second in a series of programs made by video-artists for television. During opening hours Somos Libres!? was shown at De Appel. (Press release De Appel)
