Yael Bartana (1970)
Description
Yael Bartana (1970) is showing video works that were filmed in Israel and convey the theme of social and national rituals, often related to religion and the continual presence of war and insecurity. Bartana filmed a fanfare orchestra featuring teenagers going completely crazy and not playing what they are supposed to play and just producing a racket. For her it's a question of 'losing tension through the act of blowing...' In the second film she relates to the young generation of Israelis and their perception of politics. More specifically it is about evacuation. The video depicts the dilemma of life determined by historical fate and the wish to be seen as an individual.
