Ensemble of Movements

The Ensemble is De Appel's recurring education programme. It gathers polyphonic voices, ideas, and experiences deriving from exhibitions and other artistic projects through a wide range of activities and conversations.

During 3 MOVEMENTS, the Ensemble will investigate sound and gender expression through body movement. Several questions, along with others, will be explored to imagine other ways of body awareness:

What does sound do to our body? What do our bodies do to our mind? What can we communicate through movement?

The first part of the Ensemble will focus on Ben Russell's exhibition IT IS HERE/THIS WILL LAST FOREVER. Over two sessions we will place our bodies in relation to the film’s portraiture, and investigate the effects of haptic sound on our experience. During the session we will also discuss contemporary labor, or what Russell's calls “the human foundation of capital.” Monday 22 October, 13:00 - 15:00 Sunday 4 November, 13:00 - 15:00 Saturday 17 November, 13:00 - 15:00 Location: De Appel
