3 – 4 pm Guided tour of the exhibition (in Dutch)
3 - 4 pm Come and Roast!
Our Roaster Rán Flygenring together with the participants of the Curatorial Programme invite you to roast with them in Rán's studio at de Appel arts centre.
For the exhibition Michael Portnoy has “installed” another artist, namely Rán Flygenring, within the exhibition space for the purpose of relentlessly ‘roasting’ and ‘improving’ all the other works in the show, also to produce new artworks and new breeds of art inspired by the works in the show. By means of their cooperation, Portnoy and The Roaster metaphorically put all the artworks of the exhibition ‘on fire’ with unpredictable results. The goal is to accelerate the evolution of contemporary art.
4-6 pm Tell/Sell, a common story | performance by Sarah van Lamsweerde
This performance (in the form of an auction) centres around a story, authored by the artist and relating to specific objects each presented on a plinth. Taking the form of a classical art auction – as opposed to a conventional artwork – each word of the story must be sold to willing bidders before it can be told as part of a narrative whole. The audience in attendance will blindly shape the tale, through the frame of their own consuming desires, in advance of the story being spilled. Tell/Sell, a common story is a performance work created in collaboration with Esther Mugambi, and was originally commissioned by Ellen de Bruijne Projects.
Ongoing performances and installations 12-6 pm
Internal Conflict by Krõõt Juurak, DVD by Robertas Narkus, and By Burning We Obtain One Gram of Powder by Katarina Zdjelar
Olfactory installation Smell | by Janek Simon in collaboration with Laurent-David Garnier Smell is an olfactory installation by Janek Simon in collaboration with Laurent-David Garnier. For the duration of the day, a smell will fill the spaces of de Appel arts centre and reference the Situationists' exhibition proposal of 1959. The work Smell was realized for the first time at Kronika in Bytom, Poland, in 2006. It belongs to a group of artworks in which the artist touches upon the problem of catastrophe – a possible end of civilization. The artwork was produced in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum.
