Aki Onda: Dissapearances (For The Space)
17:00–18:30
de Appel, Schipluidenlaan 12, Amsterdam
PLEASE NOTE: RSVP required to info [at] deappel.nl
De Appel hosts a unique performance by New York-based artist and composer Aki Onda. Forging mnemonic experiences through sound and technology, Dissapearances (For The Space) responds to De Appel Archive and its new location in Amsterdam New-West. Onda will play objects that respond to the architecture and acoustics of the spaces in which he performs, as well as insert “sound memories” from his personal tape archive.
Aki Onda is particularly known for his Cassette Memories — works compiled from a “sound diary” of field-recordings collected by using the cassette Walkman. He creates compositions, performances and visual artworks using those “sound memories”. Onda often performs in interdisciplinary fields and collaborates with filmmakers, visual artists and choreographers, including Ken Jacobs, Michael Snow, Raha Raissnia, Akio Suzuki, and Takao Kawaguchi. His work has been presented at numerous institutions worldwide, such as MoMA, The Kitchen, documenta 14, Centre Pompidou, Louvre Museum, Palais de Tokyo and Bozar.
