Recapping COOP Summit at Dutch Art Institute

This year’s Dutch Art Institute's COOP Summit took place in Essaouira, Morocco. One of the study trajectories of the roaming academy, Assembling Land: Rehearsals towards Place-making, was facilitated and led by de Appel's Marina Christodoulidou and Noor Abuarafeh.

Assembling Land: Rehearsals towards Place-making invited the public to participate in a multi-weaving day of gathering to reflect on critical issues faced by our communities today. Guided by four main thematic chapters: housing, water, out/institution and land, this event featured pamphlets with contributions by peers and friends from Morocco, Palestine and elsewhere. The Summit acted as an open rehearsal of creative interpretations, transforming text material into a resource of coming together. During the gathering they crafted ad hoc activations that transcend the solitary sense of reading—accompanied by vibrant jamming sessions to the act of offering a homemade orange cake.
