Ben d'Armagnac "Performance"
Multi Art Point, Herengracht 270, Amsterdam
On the floor was spread a square of white plastic. On one of the walls part of the surface had been softened by means of a padded layer. One could hear the plaintive sound of a cow lowing. Ben d'Armagnac laid on the white plastic. He moved his arms and legs. After some time he crawled up to the padded part of the wall and banged his head against it. Right on that moment out of a second loudspeaker came a sound of iron objects touching each other. While bumping his head, Ben d'Armagnac produced the sound of lowing. When he stopped banging his head and went back to the plastic, the sound of the second loudspeaker stopped too. These movements were repeated during the performance. The sound was recorded in an abattoir and one heard the sound of cows being slaughtered, being hanged on hooks and moved on rail.
