Curating and dealing performance
de Appel, Prins Hendrikkade 142, Amsterdam
Special event in relation to the annual Amsterdam Art Weekend.
Parallel to its Public Programme of exhibitions, performances, lectures and discussions, de Appel arts centre is organizer and host of two professional development programmes, β¨the Curatorial Programme and the Gallerist Programme, which provide (aspiring) curators β¨and gallerists from all corners of the world with opportunities to refine their expertise andβ¨ curatorial thinking.
During Amsterdam Art Weekend, the current participants of both the Curatorial and the Gallerist Programme will be present in Amsterdam. On this occasion, de Appel presents a public round-table discussion on the challenges of performance, both in the non-profit and the for-profit field. How do you (re)stage performance? How does a gallerist work with performance artists? Do performances need restoration from time to time? What does it mean to collect or sell performances?
With contributions and presentations by Hendrik Folkerts (Curator Public Program, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam), Eva Wittocx (Curator, Museum M, Leuven), Ellen de Bruijne (Director, Ellen de Bruijne Projects, Amsterdam), and Lorenzo Benedetti (Director, de Appel arts centre, Amsterdam).
