Final project Gallerist Programme Liste Art Fair Basel
From 10 - 16 June the participants of the Gallerist Programma will have their final project at Liste Art Fair Basel. The gallerist Programme is a new professional development programme for a young generation of gallerists, organized by de Appel arts centre, Amsterdam, and The Fair Gallery
Over the past nine months nine young professionals participated in a trajectory consisting of 6 workshop weeks, taking place at different places worldwide such as London, New York, Brussels, Berlin, Warsaw and Hong Kong, related to a number of prestigious art events such as Frieze London, the Armory Show and the Independent, Berlin gallery Weekend and Art Basel Hong Kong. Apart from engaging in numerous informal encounters with collectors, artists and gallerists; practical workshops and lessons about the art market, the participants have been preparing a final project to put their experiences into practice which will be presented at Liste Art Fair Basel 2013.

The Gallerist Programme’s 2012–2013 participants are Sarah Calodney (1986, United States), Fang Fang (1977, China), Ada Kai-Ting Yang (1982, Taiwan), Nuria Kehayoglu (1978, Argentina), Anna Laarits (1984, Estonia), Camilla Mozzato (1982, Italy), Nathaniel Pitt (1975, United Kingdom) and Maria Quiroga (1984, Colombia). Working in dialogue with one another, over the course of the fair week the participants to the Gallerist Programme 2012 – 2013 present a dynamic stand with changing solo-projects by artists that are all presenting at Liste for the first time.
The changing booth will bring a performance project with Rory Pilgrim (GB, 1988) delving into the different understandings of terms like hope and faith and in collaboration with local guests Nancy Kreiger (Quaker, Jungian psychoanalyst) and Amira Hafner Al-Jabaji (journalist, columnist). Jeremy Hutchison’s (GB, 1978) ‘Demand & Supply’ questions the expected roles of gallerist, artist and collector in the process of art production. A more poetic page is turned with the projects by Katalin Hausel (HU, 1971) and Nicolas Feldmeyer (CH, 1980) both in their own way investigating notions of space. Large sculptural projects by Matti Isan Blind (DE, 1975) and Wangf Yifan (CN,1978) again transform the space during the last days of the fair.

De Appel Gallerist Programme
In his essay 'Courage and the Terror of Death', the Albanian writer Fatos Lubonja reflected upon his 17 years as a political prisoner: 'What betrays the prisoner is hope...but hope is a light that cannot be lit or put out by the resources of reason or of social being...the loss of hope is more than the loss of everything'. At a time marked by skepticism and confusion, British artist Rory Pilgrim will create a 'bonfire' of possibility over 3 days at Liste Art Fair Basel.
Interweaving text, textile, animation, beats, spoken word and dialogue Pilgrim will explore our faith in words to create rational and radical change. It is often said that 'actions speak louder than words', yet is this because we no longer have the words to create the changes we need? Starting with a performance that will fuel the bonfire, a small group of young people will outpour all their words until they have nothing left to say. Over the next 2 days, these words will be rebuilt and transformed with dialogues taking place with invited guests. Coming from religious and political backgrounds, the dialogues will reflect upon the possibility to rebuild and transform our relationship to hope and language.
