Come With Us
de Appel, Prins Hendrikkade 142, Amsterdam
Master Class in the shape of an open debate. Because of the wide extent of the notion of Soft Power and before narrowing it down to a specific location, SP is going to be presented with different points of view trough different cultures. Once these examples would have set a field of definitions, keywords and aspects, the aim is to bring the discussion back to the Netherlands by relating the different examples and definitions of Soft Power to the actual Dutch situation. In order to achieve this, a mediator will introduce questions and guide both the speakers and the audience in the debate.
Come with us…
Behind the joyful façade of lightness and absurdity, a greater reality reveals itself. Amongst the many forces of power there is one to be called Soft Power, the art of persuasion. The simple strategy of this power is to make others want what you want through attraction rather than force – by use of structure, culture or ideologies. What does Soft Power represents today, and what will it become?
How does art react to Hard Power situations? How does it become a Soft Power itself? Come with us… takes you on a journey through the labyrinth of seduction, unveiling and revealing the use of Soft Power in its daily practice. From art to politics.
It has been proven, time and again, that sex sells. Even to women.
Our Master Class is going to be shaped as an open debate. Because of the wide extent of the notion of Soft Power and before narrowing it down to a specific location, SP is going to be presented with different points of view trough different cultures. Tree selected speakers are going to point out different examples:
– M2M Foundation, Migrant to Migrant: Presentation by and about the the new ‘Parliament of Refugees’. With: Jo van der Spek, Diana Krabbedam, ‘Wij zijn hier’ and a group of refugees participating to the project.
– Fabrizio De Rosa: graduated master of International Journalism and Communication Science. He will present Soft Power from Italy to Qatar starting from his Master Thesis “Personalization of politics in the Italian media landscape: Berlusconi’s hybridization of football and politics”.
– Marieke de Vogel (Lecturer in Multimedia, HAN) and Bob Verheijden (Lecturer Interior Design, Coventry University) will present after their own working experience as designers how China is using Soft Power as a strategy (re)building societies concentrated on a ME-land instead that on a WE-land.
