In the context of Talking Back to the Media De Appel Foundation extended an invitation to the American performer Eric Bogosian. Bogosian put together a one-hour programme especially for the opening day entitled American Dream. This work is about a man who ‘becomes possessed by the demons of the mass media, who urge him to eat, fuck and kill’. Bogosian will present American Dream, which is a cross between a performance and a monologue, on November 1 at 9:30 pm in Aorta, Spuitstraat 189, Amsterdam. De Appel is also organizing a number of artists’ discussions in the auditorium of the Rijksacademie, Nassaukade 86, Amsterdam. On November 2, 3, 16 and 24 at 4 pm, General Idea, John Baldessari, Barbara Kruger and Hans Haacke respectively will give lectures and an interview. During the final event on November 29, De Appel will provide the context for a round table discussion featuring a few video artists who participated in the festival. These are: Klaus vom Bruch, Ulises Carrión, Lydia Schouten, Servaas, Marc Wilcox and Annie Wright. Place: Shaffy Theater, Keizersgracht 324, Amsterdam. Time: 6 pm. (Folder Talking Back to the Media)
