Radio by artists
de Appel, Brouwersgracht 196, Amsterdam
‘Coinciding with The Holland Festival in June, the VPRO-radio station will be making a great deal of its air time available to artists, offering them the opportunity to use radio as a direct means of broadcasting /communicating their ideas; or to find new, unusual presentation forms for more or less ordinary subjects. Willem de Ridder, commentator for The Holland Festival, VPRO-staff member Han Reiziger, (Music on IV), and De Appel (Josine van Droffelaar) have jointly initiated these radio events. Radio as an art form? Many of the broadcasts will, in any case, be about art or will be art. (...) Names of a few of the artists that can be expected to contribute: Barbara Bloom, Ulises Carrión, Johan Cornelissen, Terry Fox, Martha Hawley, Madelon Hooykaas and Elsa Stansfield, Harrie de Kroon, Icloris van Mancn, Gerald Newman, Dick Raaymakers, Willem de Ridder, David Troostwijk, Nikolaus Urban, Yoshi Wada, Michel Waisvisz and many more.’ (Josine van Droffelaar, ‘Radio by artists’, De Appel, 3 (1983) 2, p. 35.)
