βMy remarks consist of ten acts that will be carried out within the space of an hour, with intervals of a few minutes. These acts were chosen from a collection of performances that have been in my possession for quite some time. If the performance has any meaning for the observer it is entirely coincidental, because for me the acts form a space that accommodates a certain sensitivity - a narcissistic circuit of self-perception in which the attention of the public is used as a catalyst, unless the observer is able to penetrate the closed circle by responding at the same level. (...) The object of this performance, which is really intended for the artist alone, is to give the observer the opportunity to test himself against my personal standard. Artβs 'Golden Fleece' must be exposed in a refined way so the relationships are brought back to normal. (...)β (Paul Tuithof, invitation De Appel, January 1980.)
