de Appel Kiosk with Espacio Estamos Bien
09:00–17:00
Dappermarkt
Next week the second iteration of de Appel´s experimental Kiosk will take place at Dappermarkt in Amsterdam-East. This time, Espacio Estamos Bien, in collaboration with Lorenzo García-Andrade, will create a space for alternative exchange, focusing on non-monetary economies, hospitality, the gifting tradition of the potlatch, and cooperative values. The stall is called DOOS ¡No hacemos moneda falsa!. It will be filled with goods found in boxes sent by friends and collaborators from across the world. Objects and art miscellanea will be exchanged using creative bartering methods like favors, letters, wishes or other objects. Join us in this correspondence by filling the boxes with objects and thoughts as we send the boxes back to the senders.
Keep an eye on our Instagram page as we will post early in the morning where the Kiosk will be at the market, and more details of the closing gathering. A closing moment will take place at the community center and freeshop Afvalpaleis, on the Dapperstraat on Saturday 7 December.
The artists and de Appel extend thanks to NieuwLand for supporting logistically.
More about the de Appel Kiosk
Inspired by our friends in the Lumbung, who still run a Lumbung kiosk, and other initiatives by artists to sustain their collectives and participate in other economies, de Appel has launched an experimental kiosk in collaboration with artists Metti/Waèl el Allouche (who hosted the kiosk last October) and Espacio Estamos Bien for 2024. The artists have developed their own stalls and in them their own economies.
Espacio Estamos Bien (EEB) is an art cooperative* based in Amsterdam that organizes gatherings, publications, exhibitions, and other formats. EEB started plotting the idea of a new space in Amsterdam—not necessarily a physical one—that could provide an affective and supportive context. A space for those who do not belong in the institutional circuit. A space that is always changing, always moving, but always available. EEB is an initiator of conversations and a facilitator of situations. EEB was founded by Mariana Jurado Rico and Francisca Khamis Giacoman.
*A cooperative is an autonomous association of persons, united voluntarily to form a democratic organization whose administration and management must be carried out in a manner agreed upon by the members.
