Vinyl launch: Hope is a discipline

Join us for a listening session of the new vinyl record, Hope is a discipline, in sonic correspondence with Reza Afisina and broadcasted via Station of Commons: Lumbung Radio. Hope is a discipline is an ongoing curatorial research by the cohort of de Appel Curatorial Programme 2023, named after the words of Mariame Kaba, who proposes hope as a practice of communal labor. The research began as a series of gatherings at Broedplaats LELY, Amsterdam (October 6 - November 23, 2023) and continued at LMCC Arts Center, New York City (July 29 - September 29, 2024); with future iterations to come.

The vinyl, Hope is a discipline, carries sounds, traces, and marginalia from the first iteration in Amsterdam and the programme’s aftermath in Cuba. Moving across multiple geographies, it is a sonic archive of the process of building translocal thought partners in the politics of hope, friendship, and solidarity. Celebrate with the Curatorial Programme 2023 cohort, as we close the night with a DJ set by Reza Afisina.
