Closing event: The Place Where I was Condemned to Live

On the final weekend of the exhibition, Basma al-Sharif will engage in discussion with Alina Lupu, Isshaq Albarbary and Amal Alhaag who will reflect on her work in relation to three issues raised in the exhibition and exacerbated by the present moment; The destruction of material and immaterial heritage in Palestine (Gaza in particular, as addressed in Ouroboros, Basma's film shown at de Appel daily), censorship (in relation to two works in the exhibition, Trompe l'œil and Capital film installations), but also in relation to the censorship of Palestinian narrative in Europe in general, as well as inviting a reading of the exhibition alongside the question of how do we make/look at art in times of genocide? Basma will respond to the contributors' reflections.

Afterwards, reflecting on the discussion, the current budget cuts in relation to Morning Circle, Basma's new ongoing work, we will invite you, the visitors, to engage with us on the question of what kind of (cultural/art) spaces/institutions do we need right now. Basma suggests using Zoe Leonard's poem 'I want a dyke for president' as an example of a format for thinking outside the status quo.

At 7pm we hop on our bikes and head to Filmtheater Kriterion to join other audiences to watch Ouroboros, with a short introduction by Basma al-Sharif. The screening starts at 7.30pm.
