Book launch: The Art Institution of Tomorrow
19:30–21:00
de Appel, Tolstraat 160, Amsterdam
The Art Institution of Tomorrow, Reinventing the Model, by curator and writer Fatoş Üstek, is a unique manifesto for raising the standard of institutional practices of art organisations across the world. To celebrate the book’s launch, de Appel will be hosting a presentation of the book by Üstek followed by a roundtable with de Appel team members around some of the key areas of necessitated transformation outlined in the book.
Fatoş Üstek argues that there is a “world of crises” at different scales, and that the current systems of art institutions have difficulty meeting this world's demands. With this new book, she proposes a new institutional model. Built on an extensive study of non-profit visual arts organisations and the creative industries at large and incorporating interviews with more than 50 international institutional leaders from throughout the sector, the book proposes an outline of change that art institutions will need to undergo in order to maintain their relevance for generations to come.
The Art Institution of Tomorrow is published as part of Hot Topics in the Art World series by Lund Humphries, in association with Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
Join us for the launch at de Appel on Wednesday 4 September at 7:30pm. Please note that by reserving a seat you will help team members prepare ahead of time.
