A man, another man and a third man are enacting a seemingly significant occurrence. Clues and details are dispersed along divergent timelines. Several forces are at play simultaneously. Perceptions are destabilized as what we see, what we hear and what we read fall in and out of synch. Seeking a truth of sorts is a reflex response.
Rehearsal 1 is a presentation of a research, looking into the possibilities for a composite work, where text, film and live performance components are alternately present, permanently interconnected and in continuous interplay. Considering each medium’s affect and intrinsic relationship to the experience of time, this is a rehearsal of a performative constellation, which is intended to evoke the past, the present and the future, creating a temporal hierarchy, where it is not necessarily clear what came first.

The artistic practice of Zhana Ivanova (BG) centres on rearranging and reconfiguring daily patterns and systems to which we have grown accustomed. In 2012-2013 she was a resident at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. She often uses performance in order to artificially induce situations in which social and power relations fluctuate. Her constructions are initially formal and rule-governed, yet she continuously and insistently exposes the ambiguity of her own rules.
