OA/AO (onder andere/among others): with Katy Deepwell and Philipp Gufler
17:00–19:00
de Appel, Schipluidenlaan 12, Amsterdam
OA/AO (onder andere/among others) is a monthly series of screenings, presentations, and conversations that focuses around a single work or object. These intimate gatherings feature a range of special guests who are invited to talk about a recent project, idea, or thing, followed by a conversation in which we encourage audience participation. Through these short presentations, De Appel assembles an ongoing collage of the current critical and creative world, asking invited guests to think through and articulate a position towards the material they present, among others.
Katy Deepwell - n.paradoxa and Philipp Gufler Quilt #23 (Wies Smals)
In this OA/AO, Katy Deepwell, the founder and editor-in-chief of feminist art journal n.paradoxa, will present on its 20-year history and beyond. While the printed journal has closed, the website http://www.ktpress.co.uk continues and houses the Feminist Art Observatory: a resource on feminist art and women artists “for those who wish to think again about feminism in relation to contemporary art.” And, a new part of Philipp Guflers ongoing quilt series will be revealed: Quilt #23 (Wies Smals). The series reflect the lives of people and institutions that have supported and been a part of gay, lesbian, and feminist communities, Wies Smals founded De Appel in 1974 and left a legacy of supporting independent artists and new art forms. Quilt #23 (Wies Smals) represents Wies Smals life and visions and Guflers personal quest in art, gender and sexuality. If you would like to attend, please rsvp to reservations [at] deappel.nl
