De Appel is part of Public Art Amsterdam this summer.
Between June and September 2018, eleven leading Amsterdam art institutions join forces to show the richness of the public space of Amsterdam during the manifestation ‘Pay Attention Please!’
Public Art Amsterdam is a joint venture between eleven Amsterdam art institutions: CBK Zuidoost, De Appel, Framer Framed, GET LOST-art route, Frankendael Foundation, LAPS/Gerrit Rietveld Academy, NDSM Shipyard Foundation, Oude Kerk Amsterdam, P/////AKT, Stedelijk Museum and TAAK. Pay Attention Please! is the first edition of a biennial event.
Over the past decades, Amsterdam’s public space has changed considerably, and with it the space that we share with each other. Ambitious new construction projects, tourism and business have changed the look of Amsterdam for good. What is sometimes overlooked is that Amsterdam also has a long and exciting tradition of art in the and for the public domain. Every neighbourhood has its own classics, sometimes loved by residents, sometimes the subject of heavy debate. With these artworks, artists react to the changing world around them. They invite you to discover the stories of Amsterdam and to look at society from alternative perspectives. The manifestation ‘Pay Attention Please!’ consists of a presentation of existing and new (temporary) artworks and interventions in public space, as well as a public programme with walking routes, stories, lectures and performances.
