Yan Lei, closely related to Cao Fei and other artists under the nickname ‘New New Human beings’ but slightly older, and living in between Hong Kong and Bejing, was already quite an influential figure in the 1990s with his interventionist critique of the institution, where his new works show the hallucinating realm of the mechanical production o images and refer to the disappearance of the author.
