Lonnie van Brummelen (1969)
Description
Lonnie van Brummelen (1969) is presenting a new series of films under the title Grossraum (2004/2005), dealing with the landscape of a number of European border regions. In colour and in sharp 35 mm format, the films follow a strategy of feeling out and taking distance, opening up the organisation of the landscape around Europe's contour. The films, recently shown in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, were made at various locations, including Hrebrenne, a ribbon village along the much-used country road to the Ukranian city of Lliv, and Ceuta, a small Spanish enclave in Morocco. In a new film, specially made for the Prix de Rome, Van Brummelen looks ahead to the possible entry of Turkey into the European Union.
