Claudia Cristovao (1973)
Description
1973, Portugal, lives/works in Amsterdam.
The investigation into and visualisation of our dealings with public space represents a rewarding subject for Claudia Cristovao. Increasingly, the users of public space show off their talent for acting. Public space enforces the division of roles: everyone is at the same time, or alternately, actor and spectator. Cristovao attempts to delve into rules of behaviour, to make them visible and to design a third party: looking at herself knowing that she is being looked at. Cristovao studied from 2000 until 2004 at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and has exhibited in Shanghai (2003) and at Galerie Lumen Travo in Amsterdam (2004).
